About me

Hello and welcome! My name is Nicole and I am mom to Dominik and Vera, wife to  Kelley, and parent of our three fur babies, Luna, Mia and Sugar. I am an author, artist, and educator with more than a decade of experience working with children and wellness.

When I was studying for my teaching credential, I first became acutely aware of how interconnected school subjects truly are. We all grew up going to a separate class for science or art or math or history, with the understanding that each subject was supposed to be separated. And to an extent, each subject has it’s own individual traits (we don’t depend on algebra to write an essay), but when we learn the history behind literature or the science of how art materials work, we can begin to understand these subjects in a profound and deep way. Applying the idea that subject matter ideally works together completely transformed my teaching. Students were more engaged because they were able to find interests within subjects that didn’t previously intrigue them. It became easier to explain complicated subject matter because I had other skills and ideas to connect to.

Nature is similar in the way that everything works together to create harmony or balance. The cycle of the seasons work with the cycles of the flora and fauna to result in the natural growth, death, and rebirth of life. Carnivores rely on herbivores which rely on healthy vegetation which depend on insects and ideal weather. Nothing is truly separate on Earth.

It wasn’t until I applied this holistic approach to motherhood that it really clicked. Family life is not separated into little categories, it is a living and breathing organism with a variety of needs that require constant attention. This is where Earth Powered Family comes in. I found that approaching family life in a holistic and natural way helped us to thrive in ways I didn’t think possible in modern society. My skin cleared when I improved both my diet and my mental health. My mental health improved when I learned to deal with stressors like keeping up with chores and meal planning. My relationship with my husband improved when my mental health improved. It all works together.

Most of these improvements stem from a return to a more natural and attuned way of daily life. It’s all about living with the Earth and her cycles. Creating a family rhythm, nourishing our bodies with whole foods, connecting ourselves with creativity, cultivating the mind and attuning ourselves to both our inner and outer worlds all work together to create a more balanced way of life. If we truly want balance, we need to be sure that all of the subjects of our own life are considered and nurtured as a whole.

So welcome! Take a look around and see how the Earth can help you to live a more holistic and healthy life!
